Berkshire Opera Company
Now in its 22nd season, The Berkshire Opera Company, created by Rex Hearn and his wife Kathleen, has been presenting professional opera performances in venues as varied as the former Cranwell Chapel, Monument Mountain High School, Berkshire Community College's Koussevitsky Arts Center and The Mahaiwe Theater. For many years it was under the guidance of conductor Joel Revzen, but now it is managed by William Powers.
The company is known for its presentation of chamber operas as well as grand opera in concert. It was the first professional home for Metropolitan Opera star Maureen O'Flynn. Many other Met singers have graced Berkshire County's local stages under the management of Berkshire Opera, including John Cheek, Christine Goerke and Stephanie Blythe.
