On Sunday night, at 11:00, I returned to the WTF for a presentation of five new plays directed by five different directors performed by a host of young actors from the company's Professional Training Program, directed by Jason McDowell-Green. Seated with visiting parents, relatives and company stars like S. Epatha Merkerson and Laila Robins, an over-full house (standing room only) we watched the future of the American Theater take the stage.
I normally am careful about my reactions. As a critic I'm supposed to be visibly impassive. What a thrill for me to be just another member of the audience. What a pleasure to discover new authors Tracey Scott Wilson, Shara Feit, Julia Doolittle, Andrew Frye, and Serena Berman at this stage in their careers. I am grateful to Jason and to Kate Hyde and Mandy Greenfield for letting me join the crowd on Sunday night.
It was a privilege to watch the coming years unfolding today.
