I went to see the show a second time, just about a week later (see the review, one item lower in the queue) and found things had changed just a bit. The cast is every bit as good as it was on opening night, but the rhythms are different. Some things I had found hilarious were now only funny. A few musical moments seemed more refined and better sung. The chase sequence seemed languid, but still had its belly laughs, though some of the chuckles were gone. Christopher Fitzgerald's readings of lines and use of physical body gestures had altered slightly. The show seemed to run a slight bit shorter, but nothing was missing.
The best things in the show were still what I remembered and I still laughed out loud, and now and then uproariously. I do believe that this is the best show of the season and one that should be extended until school starts up again at Williams College where it is playing. Better yet, the show should move to Broadway and make a mint for someone, or a group of someones. Make a career or two at the same time. Bravo Bryce Pinkham and David Turner. Bravo Chivas Michael and Jeremy Shamos. Bravo Graham Rowat and Josh Grisetti.
Thanks for the memories. Thanks for the second second-act finale. Thanks for making the summer schedule a joy!
